GPCSL Joyfully Announces New Spiritual Leader: Reverend Dr. Maxine Kaye

A Spirit-Led and Community Driven Decision

The Search Team and the Board of Trustees of the Greater Philadelphia Center for Spiritual Living joyfully announces the election of Reverend Dr. Maxine Kaye as our new Spiritual Leader! Dr. Maxine was elected with a 98% mandate on the first ballot by the members at our community meeting on May 31st.

A Demonstration

Our search process was an 18-month effort which included 12 applicants, hundreds of hours of research, contemplation and interviewing. Four candidates were invited for weekend presentations. Additionally we held a community-wide presentation and interview with Dr. Maxine.

We engaged in affirmative prayer as a community and in our Search Team meetings, our Board of Trustees meetings, and our Care Groups along with the powerful support of our Practitioners. Throughout this process the consciousness of the community was refining and raising itself to a clear vision of its new Spiritual Leader.

The conscious unity and harmony of our community and Dr. Maxine's call to be of service to our Center and its members is a clear demonstration of our philosophy. Divine Mind has expressed itself in a beautiful unfolding of the future of our community and Dr. Maxine.

Reverend Dr. Maxine Kaye

Raised in Religious Science, and having served 38 years as Minister with the Centers for Spiritual Living, the Reverend Dr. Maxine Kaye pastored the Los Altos/Palo Alto Center for over 13 years and her first congregation in Alamo/Pleasant Hill for 8 years. During the time between the two congregations, she traveled and presented for spiritual communities in the U.S. and Canada and earned a Humanities degree at UC Berkeley, focusing on Ancient Greek civilization.

Devoted to this teaching, Dr. Kaye has served on the Religious Science International Board of Education (primarily as Practitioner Chair, Chaplain Minister Sponsor and Curriculum Writer), on the RSI Board of Directors, chairing the Ethics Committee, Co-Creation Committee and Ministers Regional Meetings Committee. She worked toward creating an Interim Ministry Program, which was eventually completed by UCSL, and has served the Monterey CSL and Yuma CSL in this capacity. She has worked extensively in Chaplaincy, primarily as a Hospice Chaplain, but also in hospitals, prisons and police departments.

In April, 2005, she was installed as Assistant Minister of the Center for Spiritual Living, Palm Desert, California, where she served successfully with the Pastor in a variety of capacities. In May, 2011, she chose to "re-wire," in order to complete her book, Alive and Ageless, and travel with it, speaking and doing workshops.

Additionally Dr. Maxine received the RSI Board of Directors and Board of Education Outstanding Service Award, and was named RSI Minister of the Year in 2001 and received her Doctorate.

Gratitude

We are grateful to Reverend Jackie Dougherty for her months of pastoral care of our community. We are in gratitude for the support of our Regional Support Minister, Reverend Ian Taylor of the Concordia Center for Spiritual Living in Rhode Island, for his invaluable hours of advice and spiritual guidance.

We are grateful to the Centers for Spiritual Living and its Office of Licensing and Credentialing in particular. Our Center is one of over 400 centers throughout the world expressing the positive ideas of the Science of Mind philosophy.

We appreciate all of the ministers who applied for our position of Spiritual Leader We wish them continued success.

We are so very grateful for our Search Team and our Board of Trustees for their hours of effort in this process that were given with such grace and ease. We are most grateful to all the members of our community and friends who have attended our Sunday Celebrations week after week supporting our Center with their presence and consistent financial contributions. We particularly thank our volunteers for their joyful giving of their time and talent.
